Dare To Be Different: Info FOr Families
What is the show?
We have been rehearsing students in Drama lessons. The focus has been on performing ensemble theatre. Students will tell the stories of people who have “dared to be different.” The aim has been to encourage the students’ directorial and staging skills and to give them a practical bit of fun, before ‘learning to learn’ week and the students move to focus on revision. We thought it would be interesting to piece together these stories and give the students an experience of creating something together using techniques from Greek theatre including chorus and ensemble work.
Where is the show and how do I watch it?
We will perform at Leatherhead Theatre. All students will be performing. You will have the chance to watch the show at 7pm. You do not need to book tickets. Tickets are free for parents. Direction to the theatre and parking information can be found here: DIRECTIONS TO LEATHERHEAD THEATRE
Do I need to help with providing costumes?
Yes please! This is not meant to involve any added work for parents or students. Students should feel comfy and be able to move.
It is very simple indeed. Students should change at lunchtime and bring one bag to Leatherhead.

What do the students need to bring on Monday 22 May?
Please wear PE Kit to school for registration. Students only need school equipment for P1-5 on Monday.
All 1st Form will need a SHOW BAG. This should have the following:
Clothes for the Performance at 7pm: STUDENTS SHOULD CHANGE AT LUNCH BEFORE CATCHING THE COACH
Deodorant
Bottles of water to keep hydrated inside the theatre
Snacks to keep energy levels going through rehearsals and performance
Wet Wipes to clean up mess
Mobile phone to contact parents at the end of the evening.
A book to read for any down time.
Noise–cancelling headphones if students are noise-sensitive.
Will the students be wearing make-up?
No.
What about food and after-school provision on Monday 22 May?
Students should keep energy levels up with hot food at break and lunchtime and a good breakfast is encouraged.
Students can access the PMH for food at normal break time: 10.30am and 1.00pm. They should have a hot lunch.
We will also be supplying a packed tea at the theatre at 6pm. This will be provided by the school caterers and will include sandwiches, a drink, crisps, some fruit and an energy snack bar. There will be regular toilet breaks and fresh- air breaks to allow the students to let off steam.
Students are encouraged to bring water to Leatherhead Theatre. No fizzy drinks allowed.
They may bring snacks in safe containers and wrappers: nothing which would cause any hired space to be messy.
Can the students sign in late the following day after the performance?
No. They will be tired of course, but we think they will be just fine! The 7pm performance will finish at 8.10pm. We know there is travel time, but the students will have had plenty of downtime during the day.
Where do I pick up students?
7 Church St, Leatherhead KT22 8DN is the Sat Nav address of the theatre.
Tickets for the show are free: you do not need to book. Simply arrive at the theatre for the performance at 7pm that night.
If you are coming to watch the 7pm performance, you will be able to meet your son or daughter at Leatherhead Theatre straight after the show at 8.15pm in the Foyer.
You can park on the road and in Pay & Display carparks: Church Street public car park and in the Swan Centre multi-storey car park.
Therefore, all students should be picked up from Leatherhead Theatre by 8.15pm. There is no transport back to RGS that night.
Please arrange to meet students in the foyer of the theatre and nowhere else. We cannot release students into Leatherhead town centre without you!
What if my child is poorly and can’t perform? What if my child has another commitment on show day?
Please ring the school office on the morning of Monday 22 May and they will pass a message to the Drama Department.
Please email skb@reigategrammar.org if your son or daughter can’t perform. It is expected that all students will be able to perform with their Form.
Will there be photographs?
Yes. There will be photos taken by a photographer and posted on Facebook.
Thank you so much parents for all you do in a frenetic calendar. We are so grateful for the transport, the costume sourcing and the willingness to allow students to join in!
The department are super excited by this group of students performing and we are already planning our artistic calendar for next year!
Best wishes
